Union Dues – Conservative Cartoon

From Chip Bok: The Wisconsin public service unions didn’t spaz out because teachers would have to pay a little more for their health care. It was because the state is no longer the bag man for their dues. Given a free choice, union members have been running for the exits. The State, County, and Municipal employees union membership is down by half, the American Federation of Teachers is down by a third.

  1. When I was a young man going to college I took a job in a factory in Camden N.J. After being there 2 days a man approached me and gave me papers to sign. I was told by others he was the Shop Foreman for the AFL-CIO. He said I had to join the Union. I explained I was there only for the Summer and I was a student. He clearly stated with no expletives deleted that if I did not sign the papers and agree to have my union dues taken from my pay I would no longer be there or in school. At 18 I felt there was not much choice. I signed and had 2 hours wages deducted for dues. It is an easy way to build membership. I will save the funny story of the Union "election" meeting I was forced to attend for another time.
