Conservative on Target! CCB, Gang of 6, DOMA, Obamacare & More

President Obama will support a bill to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman. The Senate is holding hearings on a repeal of the law this week. AND…. More mandates from Obamacare? A panel advising the Department of Health and Human Services recommends that health insurance plans offer women all forms of approved contraception without charging out-of-pocket fees. [Can he make his position any clearer on these two issues – all on the same day? – JS]

Markets rallied yesterday on news of a potential deal, but policy-makers don't expect the "Gang of Six" deficit reduction plan to be the vehicle of a deal to lift the Federal debt ceiling. Senate leaders Harry Reid (D-NV) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) downplayed the proposal because it would take too long to enact before August 2nd, when Treasury will exhaust its cash reserves.

'CUT, CAP, AND BALANCE' PASSES THE HOUSE, BUT WON'T GO ANYWHERE: . The Republican-led House Tuesday night approved, in a 234-to-190 vote, the GOP's “cut, cap, and balance” bill to address the nation's debt crisis. The bill won't pass the Senate, and President Obama has said he'd veto it, but the vote nonetheless provided members from both parties a forum for more political posturing and venting. It also gave hard-line GOP freshmen a chance to air their grievances and release steam before having to vote to raise the debt ceiling, and some Republicans seem convinced that it might inoculate their party from accusations of obstructionism on a debt deal.
