The ever shrinking defense budget and an imminent lame duck objective!

image
from Randall Hoven:

"In the past several decades, the country paid for increases in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid spending through cuts in defense spending relative to the size of the economy.  That approach is not feasible in the future."  CBO, March 8, 2010.
"If you really want to see when an empire is getting vulnerable, the big giveaway is when the costs of serving the debt exceed the cost of the defense budget."  Niall Ferguson.

This is actually horrifying when you consider that the Islamofascist world is on the march. China and Russia, our increasingly reluctant lenders, and Iran and Korea, pests but nuclear pests, increasingly think we are weaklings. And we have leadership that would continue to appease rather than side with our few real allies like Israel.

On top of the above, The Foundry is headlining New START Treaty Vote Predicted in Lame Duck Session. It seems the ducks don’t mind making us targets!
