From "Can you teach an old elephant new tricks?" at Conservative Digest
Two realities the Republicans must come to grips with:
1. Conservatism is the default setting
This is true philosophically: progressive (liberal, radical) ideas, policies, and programs are reactions to and against the conservative norm. It is not possible to believe and work for change without an existing norm in need of “progress”.
This is true pragmatically: Recent Gallup poll shows there are more self-identified conservatives than liberals in all 50 states with a 1-34 pt advantage. Only Washington D.C. has more liberals.
2. Progressives are changing the settings
Progressives not only control all branches of government, they also command power of the informative institutions of society: Main Stream Media (print & broadcast with talk radio being the exception), Entertainment Industry, and all levels of Public Education.
Conclusion – Time to hit the restore button before liberal becomes the new conservative (progressives, by definition, must always agitate for change). Winning elections are temporary victories. Conservatives must either take back these institutions or form their own competing counterparts.
