So what’s the Bible tell you about estate taxes?:
The prince shall not take any of the inheritance of the people, thrusting them out of their property. He shall give his sons their inheritance out of his own property, so that none of my people shall be scattered from his property.” ~ Ezekiel 46:18 ESV
I can’t find a single verse in the Bible, Old Testament or New Testament, that authorizes the civil government to take any fraction of this inheritance.
The Message Romney Missed:
The post mortems on the presidential campaign continue to pour in, the ones on the botched Romney effort the more interesting (and more depressing for those of us who supported him). President Obama was clearly vulnerable, and Mitt Romney clearly positioned to defeat him.
So what went wrong? Let me add my analysis. Three words: Message. Messenger. Messaging.
Why Won't We Buy What Republicans Are Selling?
“Consider two companies that are each given a billion dollars and ten months to close a sale,” Mohan Kompella says. “One does, the other doesn’t. What should the losing side do? Re-think its products, its strategy, and its marketing campaign? Or blame dumb, incompetent, and worthless consumers for buying the other company’s product?”
The truth is that the customer is always right in one sense: if customers aren’t interested in your product, that’s your problem… Addressing people's needs is ultimately what governing is. If Americans aren’t buying what Republicans are selling, Republicans are going to have to rethink the product they're offering.
Obama Needs a Family Plan: As Moynihan learned, speaking honestly about the state of the black family is politically explosive, even when done with the best of intentions. But if there is one person in America with the moral and political standing to have a transformative and beneficial impact on that conversation, it’s Barack Obama, a dedicated father and the most successful black man in American history. Nixon went to China. Maybe Obama can go to black America for something more than votes every four years.
The Only Clear Road Back for Republicans:
The despair on the right is real, but it needs to be tempered with a little optimism from the knowledge that reality always in the end trumps fantasy. That's one of the unassailable facts of life. We're clearly right, and they are demonstrably wrong, which is a great starting point to begin rebuilding after suffering any kind of setback in life.
Because we are so right and they are so wrong, we don't need to go off half-cocked and fundamentally start revamping our party's message and ideology in order to attract blacks, Latinos, and Asians. We need to slip around the racial and ethnic gatekeepers of the left and speak directly to minorities with conservatives who look like them to sell them on the virtues of conservatism in a manner that's sensitive and culturally relevant.
