C.S. Lewis said it: "The greatest evil is not done now in those sordid 'dens of crime' that Dickens loved to paint. It is not even done in concentration and labor camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice."
Economic Disintegration is Almost Here:The war against private enterprise can no longer be denied. President Obama's re-election ensures that it will continue and likely accelerate. The makers are beginning to give up. The takers don't have a clue. Soon the country is going to get a real-life lesson in economics. TANSTAAFL (There ain't no such thing as a free lunch) is about to be learned.
This is a country where we are being economically oppressed?
- Where 80 percent of “poor” households have air conditioning?
- Where 92 percent of “poor” households have a microwave?
- Where nearly three-fourths of “poor” households have a car or truck?
- Where 31 percent of the “poor” have two or more cars or trucks?
- Where nearly two-thirds of the “poor” have cable or satellite TV?
- Where near two-thirds of the “poor” have at least one DVD player, and 70 percent have a VCR?
- Where half of the “poor” have a personal computer, and one in seven have two or more computers?
- Where more than half of “poor” families with children have a video game system, such as an Xbox or PlayStation?
- Where more than 43 percent of the “poor” have Internet access?
- Where one-third of the “poor” have a wide-screen plasma or LCD TV?
"In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all - security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again." -- Edward Gibbon
What on earth? -- Democrats may struggle with such things as their oath of office and their job, but if there's one thing they won't abide, it's a conservative who doesn't want to argue religion and geology with a men's fashion magazine. TheDC's Alex Pappas reports:
"It all started when GQ magazine published an interview with the Republican senator on Monday that included the question, 'How old do you think the Earth is?' 'I think the age of the universe has zero to do with how our economy is going to grow,' Rubio said. 'I’m not a scientist. I don’t think I’m qualified to answer a question like that.' News outlets – ranging from the Washington Post to Politico – drew attention to the remarks. Liberals and left-leaning outlets subsequently mocked Rubio for it."
We'd like to say that these kinds fake outrages don't actually work, but the Democrats proved that oh so wrong just two weeks ago. So tread carefully, Mr. Rubio, and illegitimi non carborundum.
The GOP’s problem is its focus on the size of government:
I had a pollster years ago who said if they could only ask one question in a poll, it would be, ‘Does John Cornyn care about people like you?’ If people say ‘no,’ then you don’t have a chance. If they say ‘yes,’ then you got a shot.”
Time to get back to work building a conservatism that can win again.
“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”: [Even]Mahatma Gandhi said, “Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.”
As Katie Pavlich at TownHall.com says, “Barack Obama is no doubt the most anti-gun president in the history of the United States and his pandering to the corrupt UN should be alarming to anyone who wants to keep their Second Amendment freedoms.” And, now that he has been re-elected and has nothing politically to fear, he can really espouse his gun control ideology.
