Conservative on Target! – 2/25/12

Behind Enemy Lines – His story begins with genocide… For some reason we keep forgetting that Jesus, in the Gospels, is operating in enemy territory. We project into the Gospel stories a pastoral backdrop, the quaint charm of a Middle Eastern travel brochure—picturesque villages, bustling markets, smiling children—and Jesus wandering through it all like a son come home from college. We forget the context of his life and mission. His story begins with genocide—the massacre of the innocents, Herod’s attempt to murder Jesus by ordering the systematic execution of all young boys around Bethlehem. I’ve never seen this included in any crèche scene, ever. Who could bear it? You must picture ethnic cleansing as the twentieth century saw in Bosnia, Rwanda, Burma. Atrocity, the ground soaked with the blood of children who five minutes earlier were laughing and playing.

Ten Reasons to Dislike the Federal Reserve:
1.    The Fed has too much power.
2.    The Fed has devalued the currency.
3.    The Fed hurts the poor and middle class.
4.    The Fed is unaccountable.
5.    The Fed destabilizes the economy.
6.    The Fed is too secretive.
7.    The Fed benefits special interests.
8.    The Fed is unconstitutional.
9.    The Fed facilitates bailouts.
10.    The Fed encourages deficit spending.

Capitalism or Socialism- No Middle Way: Ludwig von Mises explained that one government intervention leads to an endless succession of interventions to deal with the effects of the first and subsequent interventions. Ultimately, it comes down to two choices. "Either capitalism or socialism: there exists no middle way," Mises wrote. Likewise, there is no middle way to solve the housing crisis. For capitalism to work its magic and set underwater homeowners free, mortgage holders must be allowed to fail. [Another way to state the “law of unintended consequences” – JS]

After NATO Blood and Treasure in Libya: Graves of WWII British troops smashed and desecrated by Libyan Muslims in protest over U.S. soldiers' Koran burning… And Obama is apologizing. And our Generals are apologizing. And the Pentagon is apologizing. America, where are you on this?

Obamacare: Pay No Attention to Mandate Behind Curtain of Spin: “Apparently, the administration has decided that the mandate, as written and finalized, is constitutionally indefensible,” said Hannah Smith, senior counsel at the Becket Fund. “Its only hope is to ask the court to look the other way based on an empty promise to possibly change the rules in the future. “Since when does ‘Trust me, I’m from the government’ suspend the laws of the land?” Smith continued. [Is anyone wondering, like me, if Obama is really all there when he does something like this? – JS]

Conservatives Must Remain United: The Republican tent is plenty big enough for conservatives of all stripes — and Libertarians — but Reagan’s three-legged stool of economic, national defense and social conservatism will topple if any of its legs is severed. Leftists have succeeded in redefining many issues. Will we allow them to redefine us, as well?

November Surprise: Debt Doomsday May Come Sooner than Expected : The federal government could hit the debt ceiling sooner than expected — and possibly around the November election — according to a report out Friday. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill had hoped that last summer’s deal to end the nasty fight over lifting the debt ceiling would ensure the issue wouldn’t resurface until at least 2013. But the Bipartisan Policy Center said Friday that the debt-limit doomsday could come earlier than that.

When will America realize that the infidel by any name is still an infidel? We have poured trillions of dollars into Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Egypt, to say nothing of what is more precious than money—the blood of the brave men and women of the United States military. And for what? To watch Iran’s influence permeate Iraq? To see the butcher of Teheran hold and raise hands with the propped-up presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan? If there is a picture worth a billion words, that is it. That picture of Islamic unity is like using American sacrifice and tax dollars to jab a finger in America’s eye.
