It’s the day we feared would come. President Obama and the Department of Justice announced they will not defend the federal DOMA law which defines marriage for all federal purposes as the union of a man and a woman.
We’ve never believed that the President’s lip service for marriage lined up with his undermining actions against it…
It appears that the president is acquiescing to the pressure of those he thinks he needs for re-election, and probably, to his real beliefs. In light of this most recent announcement, it is difficult to see his pro-marriage declarations as anything other than politically motivated to help his election.
How will this play out in the 2012 presidential election? Here’s what we know. He’s disenfranchising the majority of American voters in 31 states who have defended marriage at the ballot box, as well as future generations of Americans who need their married mom and dad for their best chance of success in life.
