Quick Quips – 6/16/10

ACT please! Use this easy Email form to oppose the House's Free Speech Gag Bill!

SENIORS BEWARE! Berwick, O's radical pick for Medicare would ration health care! Instead of doctors making decisions autonomously in the interest of their own patients, he wants a nationwide plan allocating resources "to anticipate and shape patterns of care for important subgroups." These subgroups -- which can be defined by age, disease affliction or socio-economic status -- should be the "unit of concern," not the individual patient. Read more…

Obama gives Back Major Strip of AZ to Mexico [ How far down the rabbit hole can we get? Can we impeach BHO for failing keep the USA secure – the primary Federal government duty? – JS ]

INCREDIBLE! Why Obama's EPA Turned Down the Dutch Offer to Help:
The Dutch offered to fly their skimmer arm systems to the Gulf 3 days after the oil spill started. The offer was apparently turned down because EPA regulations do not allow water with oil to be pumped back into the ocean. If all the oily water was retained in the tanker, the capacity of the system would be greatly diminished because most of what is pumped into the tanker is sea water.
Get it? The EPA wouldn't let them suck lots of oil out of the ocean because they would be returning small amounts of oil into the ocean.
But don't worry, Bammy's Energy Secretary won a Nobel Prize. Read more…

Obama vs. BP (and You) - The government holds a company's stock price hostage!
Government is the greatest of blessings, without which many other blessings are not possible, such as freedom from fraud and extortion and violence. The problem, and irony, is that government, in clearing the field of other fraudsters and extortionists, is ever tempted by those roles itself.
A policeman kicks out your taillight and then writes you a ticket for a faulty taillight. A president announces a moratorium on offshore drilling as a sop to a section of his public that always opposes drilling, and to be seen "doing something." Then he turns around and demands that BP compensate those injured by the president's own careless action.
Mr. Obama may not quite have committed the miracle of converting Tony Hayward into a sympathetic character, but voters who aren't keen on higher energy prices should be watching closely. Their taillight is ripe to be kicked out next.  Read more...

Oil and Snake Oil
The big oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is bad enough in itself. But politics can make anything worse.
Let's stop and think. Either the government knows how to stop the oil spill or they don't. If they know how to stop it, then why have they let thousands of barrels of oil per day keep gushing out, for weeks on end? All they have to do is tell BP to step aside, while the government comes in to do it right.
If they don't know, then what is all this political grandstanding about keeping their boot on the neck of BP, the Attorney General of the United States going down to the Gulf to threaten lawsuits-- on what charges was unspecified-- and President Obama showing up in his shirt sleeves?…
This government is not about governing. It is about creating an impression. That worked on the campaign trail in 2008, but it is a disaster in the White House, where rhetoric is no substitute for reality.

Does Charlie Crist believe in anything? "Flip-flopping" to now be called "Cristing." In the two months since leaving the GOP, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has performed more graceless pirouettes than a bow-legged ballerina. The latest? An about-face on Cuba.
