Obama’s new Federal Communications Commission Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd is a big fan of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and his Soviet-style control over the media. In this video, Fox News host Glenn Beck and the Media Research Center’s Seton Motley expose a video of Lloyd’s own statements made in 2008 at the National Conference for Media reform supporting Chavez.
In the video, Lloyd says of Chavez’ revolution and the resulting wresting of the media from private ownership:
“In Venezuela, with Chavez, is really an incredible revolution - a democratic revolution. To begin to put in place things that are going to have an impact on the people of Venezuela. The property owners and the folks who then controlled the media in Venezuela rebelled - worked, frankly, with folks here in the U.S. government - worked to oust him. But he came back with another revolution, and then Chavez began to take very seriously the media in his country.”
Lloyd also wrote in his 2006 book, Prologue to a Farce: Communication and Democracy in America, “It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies. … “[T]he purpose of free speech is warped to protect global corporations and block rules that would promote democratic governance.”
This is a man implementing policy at the FCC that will govern freedom of speech.
Lloyd has his own Soviet-style plan to shut down talk radio. This new FCC plan would foster “competition” by implementing a tax equal to 100 percent of a talk radio station’s operating budget to fund its left-wing competition.
Yet another far-left radical appointed to a place of power by the President -- this time targeting your freedom of speech. No big deal.
The Tsars were ousted by the Communists. Just a point of reference.
