Conservative on Target! 10/2/12

Poll of the Day: The race for the 15% -- Rasmussen asks likely voters how certain they are they will vote for their favored candidate: 43% said they are certain they will vote for Romney, 42% said they are certain they will vote for President Obama, while 15% are either uncommitted or are open to switching from the candidate they are leaning towards.

"The more profound problem, however, is the degree to which many academic
intellectuals, especially in the humanities, have lost their ability
to distinguish the 'state' from 'society'." -- Stephen Cox

"One of the reasons why Barack Obama is regarded as the greatest orator of our age is that he's always banging on about some other age yet to come – e.g., the Future! A future of whose contours he is remarkably certain and boundlessly confident: The future will belong to nations that invest in education because the children are our future, but the future will not belong to nations that do not invest in green energy projects because solar-powered prompters are our future, and, most of all, the future will belong to people who look back at the Obama era and marvel that there was a courageous far-sighted man willing to take on the tough task of slowing the rise of the oceans because the future will belong to people on viable land masses. This futuristic shtick is a cheap'n'cheesy rhetorical device (I speak as the author of a book called "After America," whose title is less futuristic than you might think) but it seems to play well with the impressionable Obammysoxers of the press corps." --Mark Steyn

Obama Spokeswoman: Obama Too “Professional” For Stupid Voters: I wish you people were smarter! At least that seems to be what Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki seems to be promoting leading up to the presidential debates this week. She believes that Barack Obama’s extended answers will be too “professional” for regular people to understand. In other words, she is indicating that regular people are to stupid to understand the smoke that Obama will be blowing at them during the debates…
What Psaki is attempting to do is run cover for her boss. It’s easy to dance around the question with a straightforward answer when you really don’t have an answer or when the answer is not very flattering for your side. In the end though, it is nothing more than blowing hot air. Rather than sounding professional and being something that is over people’s heads, it becomes useless noise to anyone listening. But hey! If you can pass it off as “professional” with some people, then maybe those who are eating what Barack is cooking are stupid.

A Clash of Civilizations At Home And Abroad: Though I completely supported George Bush’s attempt to bring some semblance of civilization to the Arab world, I now despair that it is even possible. It is a culture that is bogged down in the early 12th century that has no desire to change. Fine. So long as we can siphon off their oil I don’t have a problem with them happily slaughtering each other for amusement.
A greater concern is the abject cowardice that now permeates our political class. We have had the president, secretary of state, and US senators condemn the non-violent and constitutionally protected activity of a US citizen operating within the borders of the United States. We have a prominent law professor torturing US history on the rack to have it confess that the First Amendment never before meant what we think it means.
And our values are being sold out to appease people who have nothing to offer us and who can’t be appeased in the first place.
