The bad news behind the January jobs report:
If we include those who have given up looking for work and those who could only find part time work, the unemployment rate stands at almost an entire percentage point higher than when Obama entered office…
The number of unemployed Americans last month fell by 339,000, the fifth largest drop since January 2009. But there was an even much more shockingly large number -- almost 1.2 million additional Americans were classified in January as not being in the labor force (see figure here). Unfortunately, that has been the consistent story that has made this “recovery” unique as more and more Americans have just given up looking for work.
This last number not only means that the official unemployment number is misleading, but it will also likely determine where the unemployment rate ultimately goes. Indeed, the Congressional Budget Office just last week released its projected unemployment rate for the next couple of years. They predicted that the unemployment rate will be at 8.9 percent during the last quarter of 2012 and rise to 9.2 percent for the last quarter of 2013.

Boston Tea Party Poopers: Tim Thomas, the Bruins goaltender, who is having another stellar season, politely declined to attend [Obama’s ceremony]. He notified management well in advance, posted a short explanation on Facebook describing his Tea Party reasons, and emphasized these were purely his individual views rather than that of the organization.
Many members of the chattering class went apoplectic. Some, though not all, sports writers called for Thomas’ censure and suspension. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said Thomas lacked “basic courtesy and grace.” The Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont called Thomas “Immature. Unprofessional. Self-centered,” among other names, and said he should give up his Team-America silver medal from the 2010 Olympics….
Said Thomas about his decision, “I followed my conscience.” Didn’t anybody tell you, Tim? In today’s America you must embrace the Left’s conscience. You’re not allowed to have your own.
Pastors who question the involvement of Christians in politics need to realize that the defense of our religious and political freedoms was sparked by one pastor in 1750: “Whatever one thinks of Jonathan Mayhew's theology--it was so liberal that the Boston Association of Congregational Ministers would not admit him--no one can deny his influence on the American Revolution. Not only did he preach the sermon that led to the stamp riots, but he preached another which John Adams called "the spark that ignited the American Revolution."
GOP’s Hatch: Someone Should Remind Obama He’s Not Jesus Christ: “In 2008, the president declared that his nomination was the world historical moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal,” Hatch said in a speech from the Senate floor.
“Someone needs to remind the president that there was only one person who walked on water and he did not occupy the Oval Office.”
Hatch skewered the president for a remark he made at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday morning, during which he suggested Jesus might support his plan to raise taxes on wealthy Americans. “For me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’s teaching that ‘for unto to whom much is given, much shall be required,’” Obama said at the breakfast.
Hatch, who is a devout Mormon, suggested Obama was trying to “assume the role of theologian in chief” and said he ought to stick to public policy.

God's Plan for Marriage: …The point is simply this: God instituted marriage for the good of man (restraining and channeling his sexuality), for the protection and dignity of woman, and the flourishing of human society. Western civilization, the greatest ever, took this to heart, but forgets it now at its own peril.
