PUSH - Sermon Notes for 1/29/12
As a global community, our First Fort Lauderdale mission, our PUSH, is to
- WIN people to Jesus Christ
- TRAIN them to become His followers
- SEND them into the world.
Our faith bids us carry out the dictates of the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:16-20:
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Pastor Larry Thompson further reminded us [video of the sermon here at 25:16]:
- Pushing together is never hindered by age. (I Timothy 4:12)
- A push together looks for opportunity, not excuses. (Ephesians 5.15-16)
- We push together with palms open, not closed. (Philippians 3.13)
TODAY’S TAKEAWAYS
- It’s better to risk and fail than to live life with regrets.
- The greatest risk in the Christian life is not taking a risk.
- Pushing together is fueled by generosity, not greed.
