Quip, Quotes and Tweets – 8/31/10

It’s Not About Guns vs. Butter, Mr. President:
It is understandable that President Barack Obama wanted to mention the sorry state of the economy in his address to the nation tonight. More Americans are out of work than when Obama took office, and recent economic news has not been good.
Sure, as the president said, fixing the economy is an “urgent” task, but that does not mean he now has the luxury to neglect truly his “most” urgent task, the one assigned to him by the Constitution to “Provide for the Common Defense.”…
The president would have better served Americans if he had told them the honest truth: protecting our freedoms — ensuring no power can humiliate America or kill our citizens in their beds — requires both guns and butter. Read it all…

Obama’s Ed Secretary Recruits Sharpton’s Protesters: Last weekend, Al Sharpton hoped to outshine Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally with a left-wing, racial grievance gathering of his own. Like Recovery Summer or the health care town hall meetings (which were intended to build support for ObamaCare), it fell short of the mark. But the Obama administration did everything it could — perhaps more than it could legally — to to turn people out for Fat Albert.
The Washington Examiner obtained an e-mail sent last Wednesday by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to more than 4,000 federal employees that began, “ED [Education Department] staff are invited to join Secretary Arne Duncan, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and other leaders on Saturday, Aug. 28, for the ‘Reclaim the Dream’ rally and march.” Read more…

We The People > We’re coming to take our country back. Then we’re going to be asking some very pointed questions: Constitutional Conservatism is sweeping the country. Americans are rising up against the threat to our freedoms. Support them. Get active in your neighborhood and with your district Tea Party. Urge everyone you know to register. Tell them that this will be the single most important vote of their entire lifetimes. Read it all…

The Paula Abdul Theory of Foreign Policy - Self-esteem does not make for good policy (or singers).: Is it better to be a sucker? [ The answer is obvious! NO! All BHO’s appeasement of enemies and abandonment of friends has done is cause loss not just of self respect but also the world’s respect! – JS ] Read more…

By Thomas Sowell: The Mosque Controversy -
The proposed mosque near where the World Trade Center was attacked and destroyed, along with thousands of American lives, would be a 15-story middle finger to America.
It takes a high IQ to evade the obvious, so it is not surprising that the intelligentsia are out in force, decrying those who criticize this calculated insult….
They think the United States is somehow on trial, and needs to prove itself to others by bending over backwards. But bending over backwards does not win friends. It loses respect, including self-respect. Read more…

"What is politically defined as economic “planning” is the forcible superseding of other people's plans by government officials." Thomas Sowell

“There is no single definition of holiness: there are dozens, hundreds.  But there is one I am particularly fond of; being holy means getting up immediately every time you fall, with humility and joy.  It doesn’t mean never falling into sin.  It means being able to say, “Yes, Lord, I have fallen a thousand times.  But thanks to you I have got up again a thousand and one times.”  That’s all.  I like thinking about that.” Helder Camara

"The most difficult struggle of all is the one within ourselves. Let us not get accustomed and adjusted to these conditions. The one who adjusts ceases to discriminate between good and evil. He becomes a slave in body and soul. Whatever may happen to you, remember always: Don’t adjust! Revolt against the reality!" -- Mordechai Anielewicz (Jewish resistance leader against Nazi oppression in Warsaw, Poland, 1943)

Hey Libs > “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”  Ecc 10:2
