Are the Most-Broke States The Most-Democrat? Yes. The 5 Most-Broke are among the bluest of the blue! The five states in the worst financial condition--Illinois, New York, Connecticut, California and New Jersey--are all among the bluest of blue states. The five most fiscally fit states are more of a mix. Three--Utah, Nebraska and Texas--boast Republican majorities and two--New Hampshire and Virginia--skew Democratic. Read more…

$126.9 Billion and Counting - Fannie Mae's election-year loss duty from Opinion at The WSJ:
"Through this prolonged stress in the housing market, we are helping homeowners across the country, supporting affordable housing, and providing financing to keep the residential markets functioning," declared Fannie president and CEO Mike Williams, in explaining the losses. It takes skill and determination to lose that much money, and Fannie seems up to the task…
Add Fan and Fred together, and taxpayer losses so far are $126.9 billion, and counting. When the government costs of the financial meltdown are added up, Fan and Fred will be the biggest losers.
Oh, and we almost forgot: Last week, Secretary Timothy Geithner told Congress that Treasury will wait until next year to propose a plan to reform the companies so this catastrophe doesn't happen again. Never mind that Treasury says it's essential to re-regulate the rest of the financial services industry right now, without delay.
While we're waiting, we can sleep well knowing that the executives at Fan and Fred are giving their all to lose even more money for the good of the nation, or at least of politicians in an election year.

Saving the Soul of the Religious Left by Joseph C. Phillips:
”..both spiritual redemption and political liberty are secured through individual virtue. The most important thing Christians can do is influence behavior. To be baptized is to recognize both the truth of the example and the veracity of the instruction book. Whether of the right or left if you are not talking about moral behavior -- that is to say behavior that is objectively right or wrong -- then you are not going to impact social issues like poverty and injustice.
This is where the religious lefts relativism fails them and those they purport to champion. Issues of personal morality are important not because some of us want to limit others fun, but because some behavior – like some ideas – both undermine those institutions that shelter our liberty, and ultimately (and most importantly) move us further away from the Lord.
And here ultimately is the greatest question the religious left must be prepared to answer. Do we walk by faith in the administrative state? Or do we believe in mans capacity to change his life through the grace and mercy of God? Read more…

We Need Green Money, Not Green Jobs by Star Parker:
..Van Jones is back, reconstructed and rehabilitated.

Van Jones is important because he uses environmentalism as a new platform to welcome poor blacks onto the government plantation.
This is important spin because poor folks do have common sense. In a Zogby poll done after the presidential election, 73 percent of blacks said they were opposed to taxing fossil fuels to promote alternative energy.
The Carter Administration invested $2.1 billion in the Great Plains Coal Gasification Plant to convert coal to gas. The result? Zero. Federal government spending since 1961 on "advanced energy technologies and basic energy science research" totals $187 billion with hardly anything to show.
Poor folks don't need socialism or green jobs. They need green money. They'll get more of it being free, going to school, getting married and going to work. Read more…
