Cornyn Cronyism Vs. DeMint Principles - A TEA Partier Speaks Up!

In a WSJ article today, Naftali Bendavid opens:
Sen. John Cornyn, who is spearheading the Republicans' campaign to take back the Senate, is on a roll. The GOP snatched a seat in Massachusetts and polls favor Republicans in many key states.

But the genial Texas lawyer is facing an unusual challenge—from one of his own colleagues. Firebrand conservative Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, breaking with the Senate's tradition of deference, is endorsing and funding conservative candidates to challenge the party establishment's picks. Just last week, he backed a conservative insurgent in the Colorado Republican primary over a former lieutenant governor.
She then closes:
"He has carved out a niche for himself and he's happy with that niche," Mr. Cornyn of Mr. DeMint. "But my attitude is: I have a job to do here, which is to help our candidates win as many Senate seats as possible in November."
The problem here is that, long before he gets GOP candidates elected, Mr. Cornyn chooses those candidates, leaving us all voting for GOP cronies rather than politicians with any principles. Of course the same thing goes on in all parties but I live in Florida and, until I witnessed Broward County Executive cronyism at its worst, considered myself a GOPer .

Because of it's cronyism, and the Crist/Rubio primary battle, Florida GOP politics are in turmoil. A handful of party cronies, national, state and county, first picked Crist. County Republican Executive Committees fell in line but they all had forgotten to check with their voters. The voters actually had finally decided they needed to not just vote for party candidates but to also pick them. Local battle after battle raged over requests for county straw votes to pick the Senatorial candidate. Cronyists kept trying to block these votes. But We The People kept fighting back. The straw votes soon made it clear that Crist didn't have a chance against Rubio!

And the cronyists are dropping like flies. Resignations abound, particularly after they hand back their much-abused credit cards. It doesn't look like jets, limos, and bondage parties will be the order of the day for long. Funds are quickly gravitating to groups independent of the current GOP Leadership. And today it's obvious that Marco Rubio will be the GOP nominee - much to the cronyists' dismay.

Mr. Cornyn, it is the Mr. DeMints, and a whole bunch of "rabble-rousing" TEA Partiers like me, who now look to the future not just of their party but of their country. We don't just want to elect the party or politician of your choice. We want principled politics from all parties. And we don't want our choices high-jacked long before the actual vote!
